Embedded Systems: Definition, application

What are embedded systems ?

An Embedded systems is a combination of Hardware and Software. it is designed to perform a specific task in real time.

Definition:

it is the combination of hardware and software which means, Hardware refers to the microprocessor or microcontroller and software refers to the interface or environment for programming the hardware. the process of configuring or programming the hardware is known as embedded systems.

Types of embedded systems

  • Realtime Embedded System
  • Stand Alone Embedded System
  • Network Embedded System
  • Mobile Embedded System

Real-Time Embedded System

the real-time embedded system is defined as a system that strictly follows time , which means the system will provide output in a specific time interval

  1. Soft Real-time Embedded System
  2. Hard Real-time Embedded System

Soft Real-Time Embedded System

it is a type of system that allows to accept the output when the deadline is passed. it does not strictly follow the time interval. it does not cause any impact on human life and environment.

Hard Real-Time Embedded System

this type of system will strictly follow the time interval/deadline. if the system crosses the deadline result or output will not be accepted. it leads to Havoc (a lot of damage or confusion).

Stand Alone Embedded System

his type of embedded system is an independent that works by getting input and providing output

Network Embedded System

The Network Embedded System is a type of system connected to a network with the help of wire or wireless. the system will provide output from the server or cloud.

Mobile Embedded System

The mobile Embedded system is a system that is portable and requires less resources.

Applications of Embedded Systems

Embedded systems are most commonly used in various places such as consumer electronics, industrial applications, medical, telecommunication and the military.

Consumer electronics: Embedded systems are mostly found in electronic appliances such as washing machines, refrigerators, remotes, smartwatches and other smart devices.

industrial automation: the embedded system is widely used in industries to automate the process of manufacturing with the help of robotics

military applications: embedded systems are widely used in the military for surveillance using unmanned vehicles to control, monitor and take action.

medical applications: the embedded system is used in various medical equipment for monitoring and controlling the equipment
